Nutrition, at times needs nutrition! That is one of the many ironies of life. Especially when it comes to meat, there are many things that are not, well, neat.

Some say meat doesn’t digest well. God, this myth is very hard to digest. When you eat meat, it gets broken down by stomach acid and digestive enzymes. In the small intestine, the proteins are broken down into amino acids and the fat is broken down into fatty acids. Post this, they get absorbed over the digestive wall and into the bloodstream. Translated into simple English, meat gets completely and clearly digested, thank you!

Have you heard people say meat is full of harmful saturated fat and cholesterol? Stop hearing them. Modern science has unequivocally said they are harmless. While it may be true that meat is relatively high in saturated fat and cholesterol, it shouldn’t of concern since they do have adverse effects on blood cholesterol nor do they increase risk of heart disease.

Meat is bad for our bones, say some other. Relax, meat is rich in protein and a high protein diet is linked to enhanced bone density and a lower risk of osteoporosis. There are enough studies so go ahead and have your share of meat. Let this myth not be a bone of contention!

And then there are slim people saying meat consumption makes one fat. Meat is one of the best sources of highly bioavailable protein. And protein is the most weight loss friendly macronutrient. Many studies have shown when you eat more protein, you tend to eat less of other foods. So next time someone says meat makes you fat, tell them ‘fat chance’!

And then there are others who say meat is unnecessary and we can live without meat. Ya, that is true. But then meat does have its share of nutrients and goodness. We could list them and discuss about them till the proverbial cows come home, but we are not going to since you know it yourself.

But hey, just because we could live without meat doesn’t mean we should. If we can’t have meat, then what are Sundays for?
